What kind of weddings do we allow at the Chapel? 

Anyone can be married at Memorial Chapel regardless of their affiliation to the University and cultural or faith background. Ceremonies of all sizes and traditions are welcome and can be accommodated.

Who is not allowed to book an event at UMD Memorial Chapel? 

Anyone is welcome to reserve space in Memorial Chapel regardless of their affiliation to the University.

The Lounge and Conference Room.

What is the maximum capacity per time-slot for the Main Chapel (Pre-covid)? 

300. Anything beyond 300 requires purchase of additional time.

What elements come together to create an area uniquely for contemplation in the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance?

-The labyrinth (a sanctuary for those who walk while they think)

- The benches (a place for those who want to sit still), and 

-The Fountains (add a soothing dynamic, while journals allow the community to express their emotions.)

How long can a client/patron hold a prospective date before a deposit is required? 

Traditional holds are two-weeks but may vary depending on level of urgency, proximity to date, and/or personal circumstance.

What method of payment do we accept? 

Payment can be made by major credit cards, checks, money orders and campus KFS accounts. Cash is not accepted. If you wish to pay by check or money order please make arrangements to drop off the payment in person. Checks can be made out to "University of Maryland."

What is our deposit and cancellation policy? 

The deposit fee is fifty percent (50%) of the total room rental fee and a $75 administrative fee. The deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE.

In the event of a cancellation made prior to six (6) months of the wedding date, the Chapel retains the deposit and the $75 administrative fee; other payments are returned to the Licensee. In the event of a cancellation made less than six (6) months before the wedding date, no refund will be issues. 

At no time will a 100% refund be issued.

What is the cancellation policy for non-wedding events (student events, memorial services, concerts, performances, etc.)? 

All cancellations must be submitted in writing to the Chapel Reservations Office:

  • If your notice to cancel is received more than 30 days prior to your event, then you will receive at 50% refund.
  • If notice is received less than 30 days prior, no refund will be issued.

What are the general public rate for the Garden of Reflection and Remembrance? 

The Garden is $85 per hour; the same as the general public rate of Garden Chapel.

True/False: The Chapel provides an officiant and decorations. 

False: The Chapel provides a list of local vendors which includes officiants. The Chapel provides a variety of furnishings and altar pieces during your ceremony, which include candles, flower stands, and reservation signs.
