The "door" that blood goes through when it leaves the heart's strongest room (left ventricle) to go to the rest of the body.
Aortic Valve
The entire network of your heart, blood, and all the "roads" (vessels) working together.
Circulatory System
The top-left room of the heart. It receives "fresh," oxygen-filled blood from the lungs.
Left Atrium
The protective sac that surrounds the outside of the heart.
Pericardium
The muscular wall that separates the left and right sides of the heart.
Septum
An irregular heartbeat. This just means the heart is beating too fast, too slow, or with an uneven rhythm.
Arrhythmias
The relaxing part of your heartbeat, when the heart muscle relaxes to fill with blood.
Diastole
The bottom-left room of the heart. This is the strongest room, and it pumps "fresh" blood out to the rest of your body.
Left Ventricle
The yellowish, liquid part of the blood. It's the "broth" that all the other blood cells float in.
Plasma
The squeezing part of your heartbeat, when the heart muscle contracts to pump blood out.
Systole
Large tubes that carry blood away from the heart.
Arteries
The smooth, thin lining on the inside of the heart's rooms and valves.
Endocardium
White blood cells. These are your body's "soldiers" that fight germs and infections.
Leukocytes
The "door" that blood goes through when it leaves the heart to go to the lungs.
Pulmonary Valve
Also called platelets. These are tiny cell pieces that stick together to form a clot (a scab) to stop bleeding.
Thrombocytes
The red liquid that carries oxygen and nutrients to your whole body.
Blood
Red blood cells. These are the cells that carry oxygen.
Erythrocytes
The "door" between the top-left and bottom-left rooms of the heart.
Mitral Valve
The top-right room of the heart. It receives all the "used" blood from the body.
Right Atrium
The "door" between the top-right and bottom-right rooms of the heart.
Tricuspid Valve
Tiny, microscopic tubes that connect arteries and veins. This is where oxygen and food are delivered to your body's cells.
Capillaries
The special protein inside red blood cells that grabs onto oxygen (it's also what makes blood red).
Hemoglobin
The thick middle layer of the heart. This is the strong muscle that does all the pumping.
Myocardium
The bottom-right room of the heart. It pumps the "used" blood to the lungs to get oxygen.
Right Ventricle
Large tubes that carry blood back toward the heart.
