Spheres
100
The geosphere is made up of this.
What is land?
100
This is the thinnest layer of the earth.
What is the crust?
100
height above sea level.
What is elevation?
100

This is what the inner core is made up of.

What is solid iron and nickel?

100
This "sphere" includes all rocks on the crust.
What is the geosphere?
200
This system provides water to all of the biosphere.
What is the hydrosphere?
200
This is the thickest layer of the earth.
What is the mantle?
200
difference in elevation can also be called this
What is relief?
200
This is the "plastic layer" that is known for rocks slowly melting.
What is the asthenosphere?
200
these two factors are greater at earth's core than on it's surface.
What are temperature and pressure?
300
The layer of gases surrounding earth.
What is the atmosphere?
300

The difference between the inner and outer core.

The inner core is a solid, metallic ball. The outer core is a liquid. The inner core is hotter and more dense than the outer core.  Finally, the inner core spins faster than the outer core.

300
High elevation, high relief
What is a mountain?
300

Makes up the Earth's crust and upper mantle. It's root word means "stone".

What is the lithosphere?

300
This caused Earth to form a spherical shape.
What is gravity?
400
The biosphere contains these.
What is all living organism on earth?
400
The top layer of the mantle is called this.
What is the lithosphere?
400
high elevation, low relief.
What is a plateau?
400
The thickest type of crust is called this.
What is continental crust?
400
Earth's layers differ in this property.
What is density?
500

This system provides living organisms a place to live. There is another system that can have living organisms living in it too.

What is the geosphere and also could say hydrosphere.

500
The most dense, but thinnest layer of the crust is called this.
What is oceanic crust?
500

Briefly describe the formation of the solar system starting with a solar nebula.

The solar system was first created from a cloud of gas, ice, and dust called a solar nebula.  As gravity pulled the material closer together, the nebula shrank and flattened into a disk. The disk began to rotate. The materials in the center of the disk became denser, forming a star- the Sun. (page 44 in our textbook).

Calculate the density of an object that has 700 grams of mass and has 800 mL of volume.  Also, will this object sink or float in water that has a density of 1.0 g/mL?

What is 0.88 g/mL? What is it will float.

Explain how you interact with the Earth's 4 systems.

What is it uses the atmosphere for fresh air and oxygen, the hydrosphere for water and the geosphere for a place to live- I am part of the biosphere and interact with other living organisms?
