Landforms
shapes on the plantes surface
100

earthquakes

sudden violent movements of earths crust

200

The tilt of the earth causes what?

seasons

200

What percent of earths water is fresh water

200

who came up with the theory of plate tectonics

Alfred Wegener

200

tropic

regions close to the equator

200

water cycle

movement of water from earths surface to the atmosphere and back

300

What are the seasons in the Tropics and what causes them

Wet and dry

Monsoons

300

What is the difference between surface and ground water

Surface water is found in streams, rivers, and lakes

Groundwater is under the earths surface

300

list 2 water problems and 2 water benefits we have.

Problems: lack of availability; droughts, overuse
               no clean water
               flooding
Benefits:  Food
               Power
               recreation

400

describe what happens when plates separate

volcanic islands

400

lava

magma that reaches the earths surface

400

water vapor

water that is in the air as an invisible gas

500
Describe how the seasons change

Winter: the north pole is tilted away from the sun

Summer: the north pole it tilted towards the sun

Spring: the north pole starts to to point towards the sun

Fall: the north pole is starting to point away from the sun.

500

describe in detail the water cycle.

energy from the sun heats water causing it to evaporate into the atmosphere.  The water vapor cools causing condensation forming clouds.  Water droplets become to heavy and fall back to earth as precipitation, rain, snow, sleet, or hail.  Some water is absorbed into the soil as ground water and some runs into streams, rivers, or lake and is called runoff.
500

describe what happens when plates collide

2 oceanic plates: Ocean Trenches

Oceanic & Continental: mountain ranges

2 continental: mountain ranges

500

plate techtonics

earths surface is divided into 12 slow moving plates or pieces of earths crust

500

Weathering and erosion

Weathering is the process by which rock is broken down into smaller pieces

Erosion is the movement of sediment from one location to another
