They are all focused on their own seperate resources. They have seperate governments, their own social structure, and religious group. Each colony was monitored by the crown.

They were trappers. They caught and prepared hides then brought them to fur traders to trade their furs for desirable goods.

Samuel Hearne

He was a British explorer who heard tails of a river in the far north with shores lined with gold. He set out on an expedition to discover the gold, but ultimately failed. He learned how to survive on the land and int he harsh climate from this experience.

What is the Treaty of Utrecht?

Treaty signed between the French and the British to create peace. This led to the British getting the French colony Acadia. The French got the Fortress of Louisbourg.

John Cabot

He discovered Newfoundland had a plentiful amount of fish and told everyone in Britain about this. This led to fisherman crews going to Newfoundland for fishing purposes.

How does Europe effect the colonies?

When Europe signs things like the Treaty of Utrecht it leads to colonies being given to other countries and property switching hands. Also if one country goes to war, it can make its way to the colonies.

Why did the British have conflicts with the Mi'kmaq?

They worked with the French and followed their orders to make life difficult for the British in Nova Scotia. Governor Cornwallis told the British to harm or destroy Mi'kmaq on sight which led to the murder of many Mi'kmaq people.

Henry Kelsey

He worked for the Hudson's Bay Company. He joined a group of Cree people on a journey west with the intention of developing more trade relationships to increase the amount of furs coming from the west. He travelled as far as Saskatchewan.

What is Halifax?

A part of the colony Nova Scotia. The British built a military and naval base on what was called the largest harbour by the Mi'kmaq. This was called Halifax.

Who is Anthony Henday?

He was a British explorer who worked for the Hudson's Bay Company. He ventured into the far west to what is now known as Red Deer. He wanted to meet with the Sikisika along the way to develop a trade relationship with them. He met with them, took part in their ceremonies, but was ultimately denied.

Difference between Imperialism and Mercantilism?

Mercantilism is an economic system. European countries take resources from colonies and sell them in Europe to gain wealth. 


Imperialism allows Europeans to gain power by claiming land, resources and wealth of a colonized country. 


Mercantilism is a tool used to further and aid imperialism.
