What is assault and battery?
The harm occurs in a medical setting and includes harmful or offensive touching of a patient by a medical professional.
What is Slander?
If a healthcare professional verbally shares incorrect and harmful information about a patient's medical condition with others.
What is scope of practice?
The activities that an individual health care practitioner is permitted to perform within a specific profession.
What is denied payment?
When a healthcare insurance payer refuses to reimburse a provider for services rendered to a patient according to their benefits.
What is Civil Law?
The victim's compensation is being fought for, often without regard for punishing the defendant.
What is invasion of privacy?
A doctor sharing a patient's medical records with someone who is not authorized to see them.
What is libel?
A defamatory statement in writing or other visible forms.
What are ethics?
Healthcare professionals, ensuring that they prioritize their patients' well-being, treat patients with dignity and respect, and foster trust and confidence in the healthcare system.
What is termination of coverage?
The date on which the Coverage of the Life Insured ceases under the Policy for reasons mentioned in the Section on Termination of Coverage in this Policy.
What is torts?
Malpractice.
What is false imprisonment?
An intentional act to restrict a patient's movement unlawfully.
What is contract?
The costs of employer-furnished first aid and medical facilities, including personnel or retainer fees for nurses and physicians that are not allocated to individual claims.
What is a power of attorney?
A legal document that lets you give someone legal authority to make important decisions about your medical care.
What is a pre existing condition?
An illness or injury you had before your policy began or was renewed.
What is malpractice?
Any act or omission by a physician during treatment of a patient that deviates from accepted norms of practice in the medical community and causes an injury to the patient.
What is abuse?
The actions or inactions of an individual's caregiver or parent inflicting physical, sexual, or emotional harm on the individual.
What is breach of contract?
When one or more of the terms of the contract are violated.
What is a living will?
Legal document that spells out medical treatments you would and would not want to be used to keep you alive, as well as your preferences for other medical decisions, such as pain management or organ donation.
What is the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA)?
Gives workers and their families who lose their health benefits the right to choose to continue group health benefits provided by their group health plan for limited periods of time under certain circumstances such as voluntary or involuntary job loss
What is negligence
When a patient does not receive appropriate care in line with the high standards expected of those in the medical or healthcare profession, and experiences direct harm or the worsening of their condition as a result.
What is defamation?
A false statement of fact, published to a third party.
What is a consent form?
A process of communication between you and your health care provider that often leads to agreement or permission for care, treatment, or services.
What is denial of services?
A payer's decision to not pay for services rendered to a patient.
