Yes and No. If the contraction "bridges" the two words together, like the "gh" in foghorn. But, you can use contractions in other parts of a compound word.

If any letter of a contraction is preceded by a typeform indicator, can the contraction still be used?
No. The contraction can only be used if the type form indicator does not "break up" the contraction. Refer to page 146 for more information.
