Define/ Explain Schacter-Singer Theory of Emotion.
The Schachter-Singer Theory of Emotion suggests that emotions arise from a combination of two factors: physiological arousal and cognitive interpretation of that arousal.
According to this theory, an emotion only becomes specific (e.g., fear, anger, happiness) after we cognitively interpret why our body is aroused in a certain way.
For example, if you’re on a roller coaster and feel your heart racing, you might interpret the feeling as excitement because of the thrilling context. However, if you were alone in a dark alley with the same physiological symptoms, you might interpret it as fear.
Define/ Explain Affect-as-information hypothesis
Suggests that people use their emotional states as a source of information to make judgments and decisions.
