Workers and businesses moved on. Stores/ buildings were abandoned making it a ghost town.

He bought them for a cheap price so that he can sell them to mining camps for more expensive. Because remember Miners needed food, if they needed food that means there was a high demand for pans for cooking. He bought them for 30 cents each and charged $15 each

What was the difference in mining for gold during the first few years of the Gold Rush Versus later on?

In the first years, miners would easily find gold in rivers and streams (on earths surface) and they were able to work alone or even in small groups. But in the later years so much gold was mined that there was really no gold left on the surface and was harder to find, so miners had to dig deeper.they used heavy equipment (hydraulic mining) to break earths surface. Some miners started companies and there would be hundreds of miners searching for gold rather than a small group/alone.

Why did people in slave states not want another free state, What would happen?

They did not want another free state, because then, if they were more free states, Congress might vote to stop slavery in the whole country.

Why did the southern states agree to accept California as a free state? 

The southern states agreed to to accept California as a free state, because the northern states agreed to the Fugitive Slave Law, which required Northerners to turn in slaves, who had already escaped. This compromise was called the compromise of 1850.
