100

What is the acronym SOHO?

A small office/home office network.

100

What is the acronym IoT?

Internet of Things is a system of connected computing devices that use unique identifiers, or UIDs, and can send data over a network without requiring human interaction.

200

Service set identifier (SSID)

The network name.

200

Bluetooth

Communication technology that uses radio waves in the 2.4 ghz range.

200

Home network

How many modes can infrared operate?

Two modes:

A TV remote is an example of diffuse mode or scatter mode IR. With diffuse mode, the transmitter sends infrared light out in a broad wave. This type of mode has a range of a couple meters and doesn't require a direct line of sight to the receiver.

The second mode is line of sight (LOS). LOS mode uses a very narrow beam of infrared light. Because of this, LOS mode requires devices to have a direct line of sight with each other.

400

Public Network

A profile designed for use on unknown networks.

What is Z-Wave SoCs?

Z-Wave SoCs, or systems on a chip, can also be placed into furniture and other hard-to-reach places, like inside walls, to make the mesh network stronger.

500

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)

An enhancement that allows multiple antennas to use the same radio frequency.

500

Can infrared be used with some portable devices such as tablets and smart phones?

Yes

500

Wi-Fi protected setup (WPS)

A network security standard for wireless home networks/
