A subtle detail such as hair, clothing, and/or posture that hints at a characters personality.

An author would use it by showing their character with thoughts, speech, and/or actions.
What is thinking characterization?
A trait shown when somebody wants to sacrifice their own comfort for someone else.
What is helpfulness/altruism?
It is the way the character interacts with other people.
What is interactions with others?
"Sahara is kind and smart," is an example of this type of characterization.
What is an example of indirect characterization?
It can show a character best, even when their words say opposite.
What is action characterization?

It is how a character responds when something happens that is out of the ordinary.

When an author wants to show character using subtle things.
When would an author use indirect characterization?
It is the most reliable way of finding out a character's characterization because you cannot lie about it.

A trait shown when a characters needs are only focused on themselves and not others.
