The heart, blood vessels, and blood are part of which body system?
Circulatory system
What body system controls body functions and receives sensory information?
The nervous system
Billy’s father is six feet tall, plays basketball and the piano, and loves cheeseburgers. Which characteristic did Billy inherit from his father?
His height
Which TWO organisms in the food web are producers
Small plants and large plants
What ecosystem has both saltwater and freshwater mixed?
Salt marshes or estuaries
What does the digestive system do?
It breaks down food and turns it into nutrients and releases/creates waste
What does the skeletal system do?
Provides structure/support, protects organs, helps with movement, makes blood.
Getting a scar is an example of what type of trait? Inherited or acquired.
Acquired
What do the arrows in a food web or food chain show?
They show the transfer of energy between organisms
What are tertiary consumers?
They are the Apex predators that are the top of the food chain (nothing eats them)
What works together as a group to form tissues? (What makes up tissues)
Cells
Which systems work together to carry oxygen to the cells?
Circulatory and respiratory
Dogs are able to perform tricks like sit, stay, and shake. Is this an example of instincts or learned behaviors?
Learned behaviors
What do decomposers do in the ecosystem?
What will most likely happen to the squirrel population in an area if the trees are removed?
The squirrel population will decrease or move to another area.
What is the job of the muscular system?
Movement (it also works with the skeletal system to move)
What are the missing levels of organization?
______ -> Tissue -> ________ -> Organ Systems -> Organisms
1. Cells
2. Organs
What is the difference between inherited and acquired traits?
Inherited traits are traits passed down through DNA from the parents (hair color, eye color, etc) and acquired traits are traits we get after we are born (a scar, tattoos, etc).
Based on the food web, the minnow transfers its' energy directly to what animal?
The grey heron
What are the 4 aquatic biomes we learned about?
Ocean, lakes/ponds, rivers/streams, salt marshes/estuaries.
Which body system is made up of your lungs, heart, mouth, and trachea?
Respiratory system
Name all six body systems we have learned about.
Circulatory, nervous, skeletal, respiratory, digestive, muscular
What is the difference between instinct and learned behaviors?
Organisms are born knowing how to do instinct behaviors (spiders making a spider web, bears hibernating, etc) and learned behaviors are behaviors that are learned after birth (walking, running, etc)
Can an ecosystem survive if all of the plants die? Explain why or why not.
It can not survive because plants are the bottom of the energy pyramid. If the plants die, the herbivores have no food, which means the secondary and tertiary consumers (carnivores and omnivores) are also going to have no food.
What are the 6 terrestrial biomes we learned about?
Deciduous forest, tropical rainforest, desert, tundra, taiga, grasslands
