How many types of systems are there?
Three
What is the difference between a quantity and unit of measure?
-Units of Measurement = quantitative data that represent quantities of matter.
-Quantities = anything that has magnitude, size, or amount (the amount of certain something folks..).
Ex. The quantity represented by a “teaspoon” is volume.
[The teaspoon is a unit of measurement, while volume is the
a quantity]
What is a conversion factor?
Conversion Factor = a ratio that is derived from the equality between two different units.
What is the difference between precision and accuracy
Precision and Accuracy are two ways that scientists calculate the value of their data (measurements).
Accuracy = How close a measurement is to the true value.
Precision = How close measurements of the same item are to one another.
What are the two different types of data?
Qualitative and Quantitative
What is a system?
A group of components that function together in
order to achieve a specific goal.
What are three different name we can use to identify the system of fundamental base units that was invented by French scientists in 1960?
Look at the title of the category...
What is dimensional analysis?
Dimensional Analysis = process in which we convert one type of unit into another unit by utilizing conversion factors.
Did we actually land on the moon in 1969?
That's one big lie for man, and one big lie for mankind.
What is the difference between "Qualitative Data" and Quantitative Data"?
Qualitative Data = Descriptive data that is observed.
Ex: The sample of copper is red/orange
Quantitative Data = Numerical data that is countable.
Ex: The sample of copper has a mass of 25.7 gram
Please name all three of the different types of systems
DAILY DOUBLE!!
Open
Closed
Isolated
What are the seven fundamental SI base units?
Meter
Kilogram
Second
Kelvin
Ampere
Candela
Mole
What is the correlation between dimensional analysis and conversion factors?
The correlation between dimensional analysis utilizes conversion factors in order to convert one base unit to another.
What is my favorite color
Blue
What is the difference between "Qualitative Data" and Quantitative Data"? and please give an example of each.
Qualitative Data = Descriptive data that is observed.
Ex: The sample of copper is red/orange
Quantitative Data = Numerical data that is countable.
Ex: The sample of copper has a mass of 25.7 gram
Please name and define each type of system
Open Systems = Exchange both matter and energy
Closed Systems = Exchange energy only
Isolated Systems = Matter and energy are trapped within (there are no exchanges)
What are the seven SI base units and the quantities they represent?
Meter = Length
Kilogram = Mass
Second = Time
Kelvin = Temperature
Ampere = Electrical Current
Candela =Luminous Intensity
Mole = amount of a substance
Please use dimensional analysis to solve the following problem:
Little Joanie would like to tell Cha-chi how many centimeters are in 2 mile.
Conversion Values (that you use to make your conversion factors):
1mile = 5280ft
12 in = 1ft
2.54cm = 1 inch

What is the difference between a hypothesis, theory, and scientific law?
-Hypothesis: An educated science guess about a particular phenomenon that can be tested.
-Theory: An explanation about why/how a particular phenomenon happens.
-Law: A description about a particular phenomenon based on repeated observations.
Please name and define each type of system and please provide an example of each.
Open Systems = Exchange both matter and en Ex: Open pot boiling on stove
Closed Systems = Exchange energy only
Ex. Closed pot boiling on stove
Isolated Systems = Matter and energy are trapped within (there are no exchanges)
Ex. An insulated thermos
What is the difference between an SI base unit and a derived unit?
Base units represent one and only one quantity.
Derived units are a combination of base units (they represent the product of multiple quantities)
You and your friend are working with a foreign exchange student. You are taking the area of your classroom for a project (with your only measuring tool being a yardstick). The foreign exchange student is unable to visualize this strange concept of a “yard”. Therefore, you and your friend convert 2 yard to centimeters for them. You made sure to use the following conversion values (to create conversion factors) and use CSP to carry out a quick dimensional analysis. You also made sure to show all of your work in order to decrease any thoughts of cheating….(cheaters deserve to be tarred and feathered).
