St. Ignatius of Loyola- founded Jesuit order; known for creating Spiritual Exercises (a method of prayer and reflection that helps people grow closer to God). He taught that prayer is a personal conversation with God and encouraged people to find God's presence in everyday life. He also reminds us to examine our conscience.

Describe consecration.

The Consecration is the part of the Mass when the Eucharistic Prayer is said by the priest as we are kneeling, repeating Jesus' words from the Last Supper. As Catholics, we believe the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ (Real Presence). It's also the most scared moment because Jesus becomes truly present in the Eucharist.

They exist as a result of free will (reference The Fall). When Adam & Even turned away from God through Original Sin, suffering entered the world. God does not abandon us in our suffering; we are united and redeemed through death on the cross.

It's the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples, making it the model for all Christian prayer. It teaches believers how to pray by praising God, seeking His will, asking for daily needs, requesting forgiveness, and asking for protection from temptation and evil. There are 7 petitions in total.

Sacrament of Reconciliation; we're called to reflect on our sins, seek God's forgiveness, and renew our relationship with Him by refraining from bad habits. Lenten themes include prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and while not a formal theme, repentance. Repentance also allows us to prepare our hearts for the joy of the Resurrection.

It is transformative of both our relationship with God and others. It is a gift we are freely given, it is not something we have to "work" for but we cannot take advantage of it either. This type of grace enables us to share in the closeness of the Trinity, responding to our vocational call, and allows us to live out a Christ-like life to the best of our ability (pg. 174).

Matthew has more of an element of spirituality ("blessed are the meek"), while Luke feels more  real-life. Luke also has the four "woes" which warn against those who are living rich and comfortably.
