Columbus's plan's main focus was to sail West across the Atlantic Ocean to reach Asia in the East. Columbus wanted to prove his theory right that the world was not flat but round and that he could sail west to get to the east. He estimated that Japan was 2400 miles away if he sailed across the Atlantic, he would arrive there.
