What is a Multilingual Learner?
This is the form a family completes that first indicates a language other than English is spoken at home.
What is the HLQ (Home Language Questionnaire)?
This is WIDA/ACCESS level 1, the lowest of the six English language proficiency levels.
What is "Entering"?
Charter Content ELD courses must be this type of course to count toward subject credit.

What is English Language Development?
If the family marks anything other than English on the HLQ and they are coming from outside the district, I have to give this English language proficiency test.

This is WIDA/ACCESS level 6, the highest proficiency level, which represents the ability to use the technical language of content areas at grade level.

What is Integrated Content and Language Development?
Along with test scores, this term covers academic performance, observations, and other data used to formally designate or exit a student from ELD services.
What is Body of Evidence?
This is the name of the annual WIDA assessment that states, including Colorado, use to measure MLL progress and eligibility for redesignation/exiting.
What is ACCESS?
This class type is any class NOT designated as Content ELD, where content is the forefront of instruction and language is supported in the background.
What is Integrated Content and Language Development?
This 5-letter acronym for ICLD classes gives guidance on best practices in those classrooms.
What is SERVE?
Once or if a student is identified as a multilingual learner, they MUST be placed in this type of class.
What is a Content ELD class?
Most of our current MLL population falls into this language level.
What is Level 3/Developing?
We use this term to describe students who have NOT progressed in their English Language Development at the anticipated pace (it's noted in the MLL Student Data Tracker).

After a qualifying ACCESS score and body of evidence, a multilingual learner is this, for two academic years.

Students have to achieve this level or higher on ACCESS for both Overall and Literacy to be automatically selected to begin the process of Exiting.
