What is a long shot?

Sound that has been added, such as voiceovers and background music
What is non-diegetic sound?
Transitional effect in which a moving boundary line or shape replaces one shot with a second shot.
What is a wipe?
Sounds of pictures being taken in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" when the boys and girls find the golden ticket
What are sound effects?
Allows viewers to take in the costumes of characters and may also help to demonstrate the relationships between characters
What is a Knee Shot?
Moving the camera up or down without changing its vertical or horizontal axis.
What is a pedestal?
Sound that matches the scene, contributes to the realism of film and helps to create a particular atmosphere
What is synchronous sound?
Signaling the beginning or end of a scene
What is a fade?
This form of lighting indicates that the movie is both dark and bright, dull yet colorful, which give a sense that the movie is cheerful yet dramatic to the audience.
What is high-light and low-light?
Allows viewers to understand the actor's emotions and also allows them to feel empathy for the character
What is a close up?
A motion towards or motion from something or someone
What is a Dolly?
Sound that happens off screen, contributes to mystery and tension.
What is asynchronous sound?
Where one clip seems to fade into another
What is a dissolve?
An interjected scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point in the story
What is a flashback?
Creates an intense mood and provides interaction between the audience and the viewer.
What is an extreme close up?
Used to lift a camera (and operator, if it's big enough) from low to high shooting positions.
What is a Crane/Jib?
Music that goes against what you see on screen. To create a sense of irony (ex. using happy music for a sad or scary scene)
What is contrapuntal music?
Edit where two or more actions in distinct locations are edited together into one scene
What is an intercut?
Text which is printed on a background and placed between the filmed scenes
