What happened as a result of Plessy v Ferguson?

As a result of the Supreme Court’s shocking ruling in the Plessy v. Ferguson case, the racial climate of the South got worse rapidly for African Americans. The significance of the decision was that the Supreme Court ruled that it wasn’t unconstitutional for segregated transportation or public services, as long as they were equal. This decision, separate but equal  ignited the prominence of Jim Crow laws like never before.

Why do you think reconstruction took so long?

Reconstruction took a long time because the people judged African Americans based off there skin regardless whether slavery was legal or not. In other terms, even with slavery illegal and racial discrimination laws established people still did not accept that African Americans and white people are equal.
