The longest siege in America. After the Bayou Teche Campaign, General Banks led 30,000 men to Port Hudson and fought for weeks against the confederates. The Confederates were starving and forced to eat mule meat, magnolia leaves, and rats. The Confederates were forced to surrender on July 9th.
