How do I get a pencil?
Try asking another teacher in the room, ask 3 before asking me, or looking around to see what others are doing to give me clues on what I should be doing.
When can I get a tissue or hand sanitizer and how many can I get?
You are welcome to get whatever you need, if you need more than 1-2 tissues that is fine. Didn't get enough sanitizer? grab another small squirt, but please do not get 4-5 pumps of sanitizer and 20+ tissues.
*You also may not go back 4-5 times back to back to get more sanitizer
What if I need an icepack, band aid, other first aid items or something else?
You may ask me for those things, I have a poster that shows me when I should send you to the nurse and we will be following that.
Ms. Smith is in the middle of the lesson, instructions or is unavailable but I need materials (pencil, glue, highlighter, paper etc.)
I can ask 3 before asking/interrupting Ms. Smith, if she is talking I can wait until she is done, or I can ask one of the other teachers in the room.
Ms. Smith is unavailable, there are no other teachers in the room, I have no one I can ask around me. What do I do?
You can submit a HELP! form on google, you can look at the screen to see directions, OR you can look around the room to see what everyone is doing to gather clues.
Can I talk during independent work?
Depends on the lesson and actiivity. If you have a question, if you need something, if you dont understand something it is okay to ask a peer.
I just went to the bathroom and threw up, can I go to the nurse?
No, unfortunately the last I heard was that we had to visibly see you vomit before we can send you to the nurse.
I need to sharpen my pencil, when can I?
Whenever Ms. Smith is NOT giving instructions or doing a lesson. I can get or sharpen a pencil when we are directed to start work.
I want to tell Ms. Smith something funny I heard over the weekend, several kids are raising their hands asking for help. Ms. Smith told me not right now, but maybe later, why?
although I love hearing from my students, during independent and small group time I will be walking around and checking in on students. It is not the time to share personal stories with me, those will have to wait until after or before class.
when can I go to the bathroom?
I have a headache, can I go to the nurse?
No, sorry this is not an option. The nurse cannot do anything for your headache. I can give you an icepack and dim the lights.
Do I need to ask Ms. Smith if I can sharpen my pencil or get a pencil? OR I need to get something else that is on the table for us to use during class.
NO! As long as you are released to do work independently you are welcome to get the materials you need.
How do I know when I can be out of my seat?
Whenever Ms. Smith is not giving direct instructions, telling us something important.
How do I ask to go to the bathroom?
E-Hall pass, we will review later.
I have a papercut, can I go to the nurse for a band aid?
Even though you were just trying to be extra ready, Ms. Smith does not want you to miss anything important. She wants to make sure she answers all your questions and you are prepared when it is time to get started.
When can I freely get up and go throw my trash away? (if you ever have any)
Whenever we are not in the middle of testing, direct instruction or an emergency.
what if our bathroom is full but other bathrooms are open and I can make a pass for them? Can I use another restroom and make a pass for another restroom?
Nope. You MUST use the restroom that is assigned to your teacher, if our designated restroom is full then you have to wait.
I have a valid reason for needing to go to the nurse, it is not an emergency and Ms. Smith approved the visit. Do I still need to make an E-hall pass?
YES! you HAVE to create an E-Hall pass for the nurse. If the nurse is unavailable and it is not an emergency you will have to wait.
