How does a Scrub Tech (OR Tech) differ from an OR RN Circulator?
Circulators are primarily responsible for preparing the OR before surgery, positioning/preparing the patient, monitoring the surgical team and patient during surgery, and documenting and maintaining patient records.
Scrubbing (OR Tech) mainly consists of instrument preparation, sterilization, passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon during surgery, and post op clean up/sterilization.
Note: Most OR RNs will be Circulators, but some hospitals have their RNs also scrub.
What are the main differences between a Level I Trauma Hospital vs Level II?
Level I Trauma centers deal with a higher acuity of patients and have better capability to perform lifesaving services. Level I Trauma centers typically have technology/equipment that Level II Trauma centers don’t (such as ECMO machines). Level I Trauma Centers also typically provide more medical outreach education and are more likely to be teaching hospitals than Level II.
