Costumes
"Upstage! Downstage! Stage right! Stage Left!" This person tells you where to be and when, as well as helps you interpret a script and guides your acting choices.
Director
Play that funky music, just... somewhere we can't see it. This is where live musicians play during a show
Pit
I can't hear you! This piece of equipment is taped to the actors face to amply their voice
Microphone
Upstage, Downstage, Stage Right, Stage Left (point in the right direction)
Point behind you, point in front of you, point to your right, point to your left
Dress the stage! This element of tech theater is way the stage looks, making it look like different places and times
Set
Your highness of the walkie-talkie, this person makes sure any and all tech-aspects are running smoothly during rehersals and the show.
Stage Manager
DJ, turn that music up! This is where the soundboard and mics are kept
Soundbooth
Microphones and instruments are run through this system in order to direct sound into the audience
Speakers/Amps
Places
The cue given to actors and tech crew that tells them the show is about to start and they need to be ready. Thank you, places!
Music or dialogue is amplified from the stage or pit, or any added sounds not created on stage are played, into the audience
Sound
"HEARD!" These handy helpers carry out any backstage and on-stage tech aspects
Stagecrew/stagehand
BRRR! BANG! ZIP! ZAP! ZOP! This is where set pieces are built and painted
Shop
The sound engineer uses this piece of equipment to control the volume of microphones and other sounds, mix, and equalize the sound
Soundboard
Cue
Everything is blue, or yellow, or... RAINBOW! The ambiance projected onto the stage, affecting what is seen and the mood interpreted by the audience.
Lights
An artist of the visible spectrum, this person is in charge of setting the mood and bringing the shine!
Light Designer
Don't touch it if it's not yours! This is where every object that the actors use on stage is stored
Prop Room
Pieces of plastic or metal placed in front of lights to create effects or change the color
Gels and Gobos
Call Time
The time a specific group in the production (actors, pit musicians, tech team) is asked to arrive at the theater before the show
Earth! Air! Fire! Water!... Confetti? This element of tech theater is any cool visuals that are manufactured for the show
Practical/Special Effects
Do you love arts and crafts? That's the job! This person creates pieces for the actors to use on-stage and keeps track of them, too!
Prop Master
Purrr! This is where the spotlights hang and where the spotlight operators stand during the show
Catwalk
A series of pulleys running above the stage into the wings to hang moving pieces used in a show
Fly system
