Akhenaten was a pharaoh nearly lost to time, if it wasn't for the chance discovery of old temple pieces buried in a later temple walls.  Rulers following him tried to erase his legacy, removing him from royal lineages, destroying his buildings and using the peices to pack the inside of future projects.  During his reign, he, alongside his wife (the now famous Nefertiti), tried to switch the religion from polytheistic to more monotheistic, with the primary worship of the god "Aten."  This included moving the capitol city and new art style, Amarna, which was more realistic and featured movement.  The "Aten", the focus of all this change, means "the disk of the..."
