This discipline assumes responsibility for safety of patients. Make sure all patients are accounted for. Assemble patients in designated area on each floor and held for possible evacuation on command from the Guelph Fire Department Officer or authorized person on duty. Confine fire if safe to do so until arrival of Guelph Fire Department.

These are the Successive Stages of Evacuation.

1. Horizontal Evacuation – removal of all patients/occupants in affected area to a fire safe area on the same floor separated by fire doors.

2. Vertical Evacuation – removal of all patients/occupants from affected or threatened floor to a safe area on floor below.

3. Total Evacuation – removal of all patients or occupants from affected building to another building using all available emergency routes leading away from the emergency incident area.
