What are the Geneva Accords?

A truce was signed in the mid-1950s by representatives of the French high command and the Viet Minh, bringing hostilities in Vietnam to a halt.  The agreement fixed a provisional demarcation line roughly along the 17th parallel, dividing Vietnam into two temporary political entities: North Vietnam and South Vietnam.
