3. What was the crisis in Berlin in the late 1940's and how was it resolved?

• Germany was divided into West (allied zones) and East (Soviet zone). Berlin, which was in the Soviet zone, was also divided into western and eastern zones. The Soviets did not like a capitalist western Berlin within their zone of occupation.

• Soviets blocked traffic into West Berlin; Allied airplanes delivered supplies to West Berlin and the Soviets eventually lifted the blockade.
