What is a Transcript?

What is the FAFSA?

What is a Major?
Designated/specific times when professors may stay in their office specifically to help students with questions.
What are Office Hours?
A 2-year degree often earned at a Community College.
What is an Associates Degree?
Miss this deadline, and your college application won't even be looked at or considered.
What is the Application Deadline?
"Free" money for college that is often awarded based on merit, like high grades/ academic achievements or sports.
What is a Scholarship?
A secondary field of study that you take alongside your Major to explore another interest.
What is a Minor?
A number representing your average academic performance.
Example: The 3-digit number (usually 0.0 to 4.0)
What is a GPA (Grade Point Average)?
The standard 4-year degree earned at a University.
What is a Bachelor’s Degree?
You aren't rejected, but you’re waiting for a spot to open up in a class that you need to take for the semseter.
What is the Waitlist?
Borrowed money that you have to pay back, usually with extra interest, after you graduate.
What is a Student Loan?
Core courses in subjects like Math and English that every student must take regardless of their major.
What are General Education (GE) Requirements?
A class you are required to pass before you are allowed to enroll in a more advanced class.
What is a Prerequisite?
An advanced 1-3 year degree earned after a Bachelor’s.
What is a Master's Degree?
The number of hours per week spent in class, used to measure progress toward graduation.
What are Units/ Credits?
A financial aid program that lets you work a part-time job on campus to earn money for school.
What is Work-Study?

Classes you can choose to take outside of your major. They let you explore other interests.
What is an elective?
A student who is taking a full 12 units or more per semester (usually about 4 or 5 classes).
What is a Full Time Student?
The highest level of education (takes 4-6 years).
What is a Doctoral Degree (PhD)?
The cost of taking classes at a college. It doesn’t include other expenses like books or housing.
What is Tuition?
Financial aid based on need that does not need to be repaid.
What is a Grant?
This local University is notoriously known for it's engineering and agriculture programs.
It also has a GREAT Theater Arts program that your teacher proudly graduated from back in 2018.
What is Cal Poly Pomona?
The formal process of choosing and signing up for the specific classes you want or need to take for the upcoming semester.
