Turning toward them, making sure your body and ears are facing them so you can hear and pay attention.
How can you show with your VOICE that you have understood what a person is saying?
Repeat back what you heard to check for understanding.
Ask questions if you need to clarify something or don't understand something.
Another student is bullying you and makes an unkind comment about your hair.
Either ignore or ask them to stop. If neither of these things works, and it continues or you start to feel unsafe, you may want to tell the teacher.

You could guess someone's emotion by looking at his/her face which would tell you how they FEEL about what they are COMMUNICATING to you!
A student who speaks slowly is taking a long time to answer a question you know the answer to. Should you wait until they are finished or interrupt them?
You should probably wait until they are finished. You could offer help answering if they ask for it!

Wait until the person is finished before you start speaking, OR ask if you can interrupt if it is something REALLY important.

Let your friend know you don't understand. Ask questions to understand better or ask your friend to say it again if you didn't hear something the first time.
