No. We are only accepting FDA approved home tests for students.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ISOLATION & QUARANTINE?

• Isolation separates sick people with a contagious disease from people who are not sick.

• Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.

HOW DO WE DETERMINE A CC?

Anyone  exposed  within a case’s infectious  period  (48h prior to test)is considered  in contact so when we’re creating  CC, we ask if anybody  came in contact  48 hours  prior  to test  date. Verify  dates  of exposure  on IEM because  IEM is not always validated.

Individual  who has been within  6 feet of the index case for 15 cumulative  minutes or more in a 24-hour period during the case’s infectious period.

Weekly baseline testing with a PCR.

WHEN DO WE START QUARANTINE?

1. For household cc, last day of index's iso. 

2. If non-household cc, last day of exposure to index case.

WHEN DO WE RECOMMEND CC TO TEST?

▪Test should be 5-7d from last exposure

▪Put "not tested" under exposure section if they don't have a test taken 5d from exposure

▪5d & AFTER exposure is all that really matters for CC testing related fields

▪If symptomatic, immediately

What is the required criteria for Shortened Isolation?

•Asymptomatic or improving symptoms

•Fever free/no fever reducing meds in last 24 hours

•Must have an approved negative antigen test result (test taken on or after Day 5)

•Free to return to school  Day 6 with an improved mask

What are the 5 criteria required for a lab test to be approved?

Name, DOB, Date, Test Type, Result.

WHEN DO WE START ISOLATION?

Individual  who is COVID positive; If asymptomatic, you begin isolation on test date. If symptomatic before test date, you can go back up to 10d of symptom onset. If symptomatic after test date, you will use symptom onset. If on campus during symptom onset, use test date.

Requirements for Shortened Quarantine 

Asymptomatic during the entire quarantine period

Negative test on or after Day 5 (external tests must be uploaded into Daily Pass and approved)

POST ISOLATION, AN INDEX CASE EXPERIENCES SYMPTOMS  WITHIN THEIR 90D NO RETEST PERIOD,  DO WE ASK THEM TO TEST?

Yes, if they  experience  symptoms,  they  need  to test,  isolate,  and see a doctor.  Any kind of symptom  that is presented  can be  considered  a new positive because  of the  new strains. If anyone  is feeling  symptoms,  it could  mean a new infection.

1. Create a case note on the suspected case that the case turned positive and reference the case number for the positive case.

2. Create a case note on the positive case that the case was a suspected case turned positive and reference the case number for the suspected case.

What is the criteria for employees attempting shortened isolation/quarantine with an LAUSD slip (LAUSD Antigen)

The LAUSD slip must include: Name, DOB or EID, Test Date, Test Collector Information, and Site Personnel Signature.

WHEN WOULD WE EXTEND ISOLATION?

We extend isolation on a day-to-day basis for worsening or severe symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, chills, fever, or change in level of consciousness, and they need to be seen by a medical provider. All other symptoms may be cleared if improved.

If index and CC are moved to different homes, how do we calculate quarantine of the close contact?

WHAT IS CONSIDERED  A CLUSTER? OUTBREAK?

Cluster -3 or  more  cases  at a single  location  (ex: school)  (not  epi-linked).  Outbreak -3 or more  cases  in a stable  group  (ex: classroom)  (epi-linked).

Close Contact turned Contact Positive

1. On the general tab of the close contact case, reference the case number of the positive parent case in the data field for "Parent Case"

2. Create a case note on the close contact case that the close contact turned positive and reference the case number for the positive case.

3. Create a case note on the new positive case that the case was a close contact and reference the case number for the close contact case.

4. Flip the case category on the new positive case to "Contact Positive."

What is the process for contesting a False Positive and how long does the process take?

1. Upload a negative PCR taken within 48 hours of the first positive test.

2. Once uploaded, call in to submit a request for the review process through the Epi.

3. The medical director will review all false positives on Friday (this process could take up to a week)

WHAT INFORMATION  SHOULD YOU COLLECT IF THERE IS AN LAUSD MEMBER WITHOUT A PERSON PROFILE/ACCT?

Gather  DOB, email, phone  #, correct  spelling  of name, & school.  Do  not create  the account.  Please  tag Administrative  Site Assistant  (ASA) to create these.

HH CC: How to Determine Quarantine Start if Index Shortens Isolation

1. Index case must have a negative antigen result approved and on file, on or after day 5 of isolation

2. Quarantine begins the day the positive  individual  is cleared to return to school or work

3. CC should test on day 5 of their official  quarantine period, to  return to school  or work on day 6 with a negative result

WHAT IS EPI-LINKED?

An established  commonality  between  positive  cases whether  it be a non-household,  classroom,  social  setting,  etc. that can  link them together.  Ex:  5 people  went  to a salad  bar. All 5 ate the tomato  and got  poisoning.
