Close Contact to Parent Case
On the general tab of the close contact under "Parent Case"
HH CC: how do you determine quarantine if index shortens isolation?
Index case must have negative antigen result approved
Quarantine begins the day the positive individual is cleared to return to school
CC should test on day 5 of their official quarantine period, to return to work/school on the day 6 with a negative result
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ISOLATION & QUARANTINE?
• Isolation separates sick people with a contagious disease from people who are not sick.
• Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.
HOW DO WE DETERMINE A CC?
Anyone exposed within a case’s infectious period (48h prior to test)is considered in contact so when we’re creating CC, we ask if anybody came in contact 48 hours prior to test date. Verify dates of exposure on IEM because IEM is not always validated.
Individual who has been within 6 feet of the index case for 15 cumulative minutes or more in a 24-hour period during the case’s infectious period.
WHAT COLOR DO YOU HIGHLIGHT INDEX INITIAL INTERVIEWS ON POD CHAT?
Pink
Index Positive to Close Contact
In the related cases tab. Add new case.
Fully Separated how does it apply
If index and HH CC remain in the same home (contiguous exposure)
index must be fully masked at all times (upgraded surgical mask)
if this is met, use last day of index's isolation (day 5 shortened, day 10 if not)
Role Play: You get a call from a Spanish Speaker how would you tell the case that someone will return the call back in Spanish
Lo siento no hablo Español Alguien le regrassra la llamada En Español muchas gracias.
WHEN DO WE RECOMMEND CC TO TEST?
▪Test should be 5-7d from last exposure
▪Put "not tested" under exposure section if they don't have a test taken 5d from exposure
▪5d & AFTER exposure is all that really matters for CC testing related fields
▪If symptomatic, immediately
What is the required criteria for Shortened Isolation?
•Asymptomatic or improving symptoms
•Fever free/no fever reducing meds in last 24 hours
•Must have an approved negative antigen test result (test taken on or after Day 5)
•Free to return to school Day 6 with an improved mask
Index Positive to Contact Positive
1. In the general tab of the contact positive case enter the case number of the parent case in the data field for "Parent Case"
2. Case category "Contact Positive"
T/F While index case is isolating, CC must not stay home quarantining unless they are asymptomatic, and they are fully vaccinated ad or recently recovered from a positive Covid 19 test in the past 90days
False

Requirements for Shortened Quarantine
Asymptomatic during the entire quarantine period
Negative test on or after Day 5 (external tests must be uploaded into Daily Pass and approved)
POST ISOLATION, AN INDEX CASE EXPERIENCES SYMPTOMS WITHIN THEIR 90D NO RETEST PERIOD, DO WE ASK THEM TO TEST?
Yes, if they experience symptoms, they need to test, isolate, and see a doctor. Any kind of symptom that is presented can be considered a new positive because of the new strains. If anyone is feeling symptoms, it could mean a new infection.
Suspected turned Index Positive
1. Create a case note on the suspected case that the case turned positive and reference the case number for the positive case.
2. Create a case note on the positive case that the case was a suspected case turned positive and reference the case number for the suspected case.
If Index and CC are moved to different homes, how would you calculate late quarantine dates
Use the last day of exposure to calculate dates
T/F If an additional positive test is submitted on Day 5 or later during a case's isolation period, they will not need to continue isolating for the full 10 days ad cannot test out early
False
T/F If an additional positive test is submitted on Day 5 or later during a case's isolation period, they will need to continue isolating for the full 10 days ad cannot test out early
If index and CC are moved to different homes, how do we calculate quarantine of the close contact?
Use last day of exposure
WHAT IS CONSIDERED A CLUSTER? OUTBREAK?
Cluster -3 or more cases at a single location (ex: school) (not epi-linked). Outbreak -3 or more cases in a stable group (ex: classroom) (epi-linked).
Close Contact turned Contact Positive
1. On the general tab of the close contact case, reference the case number of the positive parent case in the data field for "Parent Case"
2. Create a case note on the close contact case that the close contact turned positive and reference the case number for the positive case.
3. Create a case note on the new positive case that the case was a close contact and reference the case number for the close contact case.
4. Flip the case category on the new positive case to "Contact Positive."
Daily double: (500 points)
T/F School based close contacts that are not asymptomatic (regardless of vaccination) status are no longer subject to any type of quarantine.
False
School based close contacts that are asymptomatic (regardless of vaccination) status are no longer subject to any type of quarantine.
What happens if a positive test is declined for a missing criteria (or if an employee submits a positive home antigen test) and it was taken within the last 10days.
B- would you create a Suspected case within the last 10days?
It keeps them off campus as they are likely positive, despite their test not being approvable.
No need to create the suspected case if the test was taken over 10days ago as they would have already been out of isolation.
B: yes - create a suspected case
HH CC: How to Determine Quarantine Start if Index Shortens Isolation
1. Index case must have a negative antigen result approved and on file, on or after day 5 of isolation
2. Quarantine begins the day the positive individual is cleared to return to school or work
3. CC should test on day 5 of their official quarantine period, to return to school or work on day 6 with a negative result
WHAT IS EPI-LINKED?
An established commonality between positive cases whether it be a non-household, classroom, social setting, etc. that can link them together. Ex: 5 people went to a salad bar. All 5 ate the tomato and got poisoning.
