What were the DEMANDS of the NOCOPACADEMY campaign?

The demands were:

1. For the cop academy to not be built

2. Redistributing the funds being used to build the cop academy ($90 million) into neighborhoods that have historically been cut off from resources.

The demands of a campaign is simply what you want. All organizers must be able to answer why this is the demand, what it is, and what compromises on the demand your group would and would not accept as a “win.”

Is protesting the only form of showing active support to a campaign?

No! This is a common misconception there are many ways folks can be actively engaged in a campaign.

- Providing space to hold events

- and more!

How may we engage with our passive allies (folks who agree with us but aren't involved) to get them more active?

- Host events

- Have 1:1 with folks to know what they may be interested in contributing

What do you think Backlash Culture/Policy Change means?

One way we can work to secure our wins or advances is by making sure we are prepared to see through the implementation of a win, and/or to weather the backlash that can come from local, state, or county governments who do not want rights and access expanded for marginalized communities.

What does it mean to be neutral?

In the context of campaigning being neutral means neither showing support nor disapproval towards a campaign.

Is it necessary to have everyone agree with us in order to make change?

No!But the more people we have supporting the campaign it becomes easier to mobilize folks

What is the larger VISION that the NOCOPACADEMY and The Final Five campaign contribute to? (This vision is also related to your campaign)

The end of policing in all forms and a place where our communities are supported and the prison industrial complex ceases to exist.

What is our shared goal. It is what we want and how we want to get it and how it will help us build to the world we want. It is important to know how our campaign builds into a bigger vision.

What comes to your mind when you hear the phrase "Active Opponent"?

Folks who disapprove a campaign and actively work against it in with the goal of slowing down/ending a campaign

Think about what your vision is, what do you want NGHS to look like and who is in this future. Who is currently impacted the most by the way things are?

What is INNOVATION in a campaign? (In what ways have you seen organizing change throughout history?)

Innovation is the way in which we are adapting to the present to make sure we are not limiting our campaigns.We are in a time when the nature of successful campaigns is changing. This is in large part due to the evolution of how our targets or other people in power, have adapted their own tactics and strategies to demobilize our organizing. Thus, some campaign tactics that worked before no longer do, and new options are emerging. Successful campaigns in this time will understand the need to be curious, keep learning, keep experimenting, and innovate.

What does "spectrum" mean? How can this be related to support?

Spectrum means to be on a scale instead of thinking of things of being only one or another. In terms of support this means that there are not only supporters/non-supporters but also people in between.

How can we engage with people who do not agree with our campaign?

This varies from campaign to campaign and can involve holding events to directly responding to folks who disagree.
