Why did Joseph Smith start Mormonism?

Answer: He started Mormonism because he claimed that God the father appeared to him in a vision and introduced him to Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ then supposedly told him not to join any church because they were all wrong and all the Christian church's doctrines "were abominations"

What does the filioque mean? And what is the problem with it?

A Latin word meaning "and the Son" which was added to the Creed by the Church of Rome. Roman Catholicism teaches that the Holy Spirit "proceeds from the Father and the Son."

This is wrong because they believe that the Son created the Holy Spirit and thus the Holy Spirit is less which is wrong.

Why did Martin Luther start the Protestant Church?

He strongly opposed the sale of indulgences, believing it undermined true repentance. Luther challenged the authority of the Pope, advocating for "sola scriptura" (Scripture alone) as the ultimate source of Christian doctrine. He also emphasized "sola fide" (faith alone) for salvation, rejecting the Catholic emphasis on the combination of faith and good works.

300

What do mormons generally believe about God the Father?

Answer: They believe that he was a human like us who lived a good life and was chosen by the council of gods in heaven to become the god of planet Earth. They believe that God the Father has a physical, resurrected, glorified body (body of flesh and bones) and is procreating spirit children who populate the earth.

300

Do mormons believe that the Bible is complete?

Answer: They believe in the Bible, however, they think that some parts of it might be missing or corrupt. Therefore, they have other “sacred” books that they follow. They think that “The Savior’s Apostles were rejected and slain, His teachings were corrupted, and the priesthood of God was taken from the earth.”

300

Which Bible translation do Jehovah’s Witnesses use? What is wrong with this translation?

Answer: They use The New World Translation of the Bible. This version is filled with mistranslations to prove JW doctrine. They delete and alter verses to prove their own teachings.

Explain the concept of “Sola Fide.”

Sola Fide means faith alone. Protestants believe that only their faith in Jesus Christ can save them and that their works on earth do not matter. This is wrong because the apostle James said: “You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:24,26).

Baptism, communion, repentance and confession, keeping the commandments, and good works are all necessary for salvation, not just faith.

400

What do Jehovah’s witnesses believe about the spirit?

Answer: JWs believe do not believe in the immortality of spirits nor do they even believe in their existence. This is wrong because humans are created in the image of God who is an eternal personal being. They believe that immortality is given to one upon successful living.

400

Answer: Exaltation means that a normal human being can become a god in the afterlife. This is achieved if a person is a Mormon member of good standing, follows ALL the law, gives tithes regularly, and participates in temple activities.

400

Which teachings influenced Charles Russell?

Answer: He was influenced by Arian teachings which asserted that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was a created being and, therefore, not co-eternal or of the same substance as God the Father.

400

Explain the concept of Annihilation and why it is not true.

Answer: Annihilation is the belief that unrighteous and wicked people along with the devil will cease to exist after their death rather than experience eternal torment. This is not true because a soul is eternal and does not die/cease to exist. There is a dwelling place for the righteous and the wicked after their mortal bodies die.

500

Explain the concept of “Sola Scriptura.”

Scripture only. Protestants disregard tradition and the teachings of the apostles and the early church fathers and only believe in the Bible.

In Orthodoxy, tradition, including the teachings of the early church fathers and the decisions of ecumenical councils, is considered alongside Scripture as a source of authority. The Church Fathers' writings, liturgical practices, and the decisions of the ecumenical councils are seen as essential for understanding the true interpretation of the Bible.

What do Jehovah’s Witnesses believe about the resurrection of Jesus Christ?

Answer: When Jesus

died on the cross, he ceased to exist and He was not bodily resurrected. In his resurrection (as a ”spirit person”), “Jesus” again became Michael the Archangel newly created or restored. They claim that Christ did not ascend to heaven in the flesh. They believe that the body of Jesus was hidden by the angel with the penetrating power of God and that He arose in spirit only.

500

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ?

Answer: Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the literal son of God the Father and St. Mary through marital relations. After God the Father became a god, he joined with his goddess wife and had millions of spirit children who populate Earth and the firstborn of these spirit children was Jesus.

500

What do Jehovah’s Witnesses believe about the nature of Jesus Christ?

Jesus ceased to exist in heaven as Archangel Michael when the life force of Michael was transferred to the man Jesus conceived by Mary and he became a perfect man (there is no incarnation, as Christians teach). In simpler terms, Archangel Michael was transformed into a human named Jesus who is not divine and attained his divinity during Baptism. After he attained his divinity, he was still not equal to God the Father (Jehovah).

500

What do Jehovah’s Witnesses believe about the resurrection and afterlife?

Answer: They believe that only members of this cult will make it to eternal life and all other unbelievers and wicked people will be annihilated. The first 144,000 members of JW will join Jehovah in heaven, and the rest of the JW members (called “the little flock”) will live eternally on earth dominated by Jesus.
