What is Yes, A third party can make a payment on a student’s account without a FERPA Release. However, the advisor/counselor should only ask how much the third-party wants to pay, accept and process the payment information as a third party payment and not provide any further information. As a result of the third party not having the FERPA Release please make sure staff knows they are not permitted to tell the balance on the student account or provide any other information about the student or record. Simply accept the payment and process it as a third party payment.
