Remind them that you will keep all information confidential from other residents, and you will only pass on information that you are required to tell your supervisor. Also always practice confidentiality so residents can see that you keep your promises.

Follow up with the students who were involved in the situation, and also host a program regarding the topic (domestic violence, drug abuse, etc.)

How do you remove illegal/confiscated items from a resident's room?
Remove with a black trash bag. Allow SCNP to throw away if they feel comfortable. If it is kept, put it in Pete's office in the confiscated tote.

What information should you give away regarding a resident's privacy to a non-NECC staff member?
No personal or identifying information. You can, however, give general information that is already open to the public (for example: dates of finals, date that contracts/forms are due, guest hours, etc.)

When asked personally by a team member for assistance. (Remember - FERPA laws relate to us too, we need to be as confidential with each other as we are with our residents. Don't ask about a situation you were not involved in, and don't share about one that you were.)

No information about the situation. You may tell them you need back up from the front desk during a major crisis, ask them to leave a crowded situation, or ask for help if you feel like you are in danger. Remember to follow up with residents, but only concerning their behalf (such as making sure someone who saw a fight isn't scared)
