300

Provide one reason as to how congestive heart failure could affect your excretory system.

Example: Since your kidneys need a constant supply of blood to properly filter out waste people with congestive heart failure may have difficulties with dialysis and will therefore have excess waste in their blood. This excess waste could lead to kidney failure

True or False: A coronary artery bypass reroutes blood around a blocked section of a vein

False. The blood is rerouted around a blocked section of an artery.

400

The Kidney is most directly affected by heart failure because:

A. The Kidney is no longer receiving enough blood to adequately filter out toxins.

B. The lack of efficient pumping of blood leads to an excess build up of blood in the kidneys.

C. The organ cells found in the Kidney slowly die, because of the lack of oxygen reaching the organ through blood circulation. This will lead to kidney failure.

B. When the heart is no longer pumping efficiently it becomes congested with blood, causing pressure to build up in the main vein connected to the kidneys and leading to congestion of blood in the kidneys.

500

How does Heart Failure affect your lungs?

When the heart is not able to pump efficiently, blood can back up into the veins that take blood through the lungs. As the pressure in these blood vessels increases, fluid is pushed into the air spaces (alveoli) in the lungs. This fluid reduces normal oxygen movement through the lungs. This essentially means that O2 is not reaching the rest of your body's cells and CO2 is not being diffused out of the blood stream.
