What is energy?
Energy is the ability to do work.
Give an example of renewable energy.
I.e. the sun, wind, hyrdo (water), timber
Give an example of a non-renewable energy source.
Coal, oil, and natural gas are all examples.
Light bulbs produce two types of energy. What are they?
Light bulbs produce thermal energy and radiant.
What is kinetic energy?
Energy at work.
What is a renewable energy source?
A renewable resource is something that can be used more than once because it is replaced naturally.
What is a non-renewable energy source?
A nonrenewable resource is something that can only be used
What is electrical energy?
Electrical energy is the movement of electrons through a conductor.
Digesting food is an example of which form of energy?
Chemical Energy
What is radiant energy?
Radiant energy is created through electromagnetic waves. A major source of it is the sun.
What is nuclear energy?
Nuclear energy is the energy that comes from splitting an atom.
Why do most people today prefer to use LED lights rather than older light bulbs?
Older lightbulbs create a lot of heat energy that is dissipated. This is wasted energy. LED lights generate less heat and are more energy efficient
What is Chemical energy?
Chemical energy is the energy released through a chemical reaction.
What is Mechanical energy?
Mechanical energy comes from objects when they move. Wind is a source of this form of energy.
Give 3 examples of fossil fuels.
Gas, petroleum, and coal.
What is static electricity?
Static electricity occurs when an object is charged with electrons, like when clothes stick together after being in the dryer.
What sector consumes the most energy?
Industrial
Give an example of conserving energy.
Examples:
Turning off all the lights before leaving the house.
Walking to school instead of driving
Hanging up laundry to dry outside.
Why are non-renewable resources still used if renewable resources are a cleaner alternative?
Non-renewable resources are still used because it is expensive to switch to cleaner alternatives. Also, society has already developed infrastructure that relies on fossil fuels. For example, most cars still operate on gas and diesel and gas stations are accessible in most regions across the country.
What is phantom energy?
Phantom energy, also known as vampire power, is a draw of electricity that electronics consume while not being actively used.
