What is the difference between a civil and criminal case?

In a criminal case the wrongdoer actually broke laws and is being prosecuted by the government, where in a civil case the plaintiff accuses the other and both parties have to hire attorneys. The amount of evidence needed in a criminal case is larger than in a civil case.
