Why do we use the COS?
To ensure children are making progress/and or gaining newly learned skills. "ESIT Services are working" therefore we can receive federal funding.
What kinds of questions should we ask parents during the COS?
Ask parent open-ended questions about their child’s skills in different settings and with different people/children etc.
TRUE OR FALSE: I should give a child all "7's" for a descriptor statement at Entry COS because they have all age expected skills.
FALSE: Children should not have all 7's upon entry, as this could indicate...
1) all age expected skills and no need for ESIT services
2) upon exit, there is no room for "progress" or "new skills" gained over time

TRUE OR FALSE: My active IFSP family under the age of 3 is moving to another home in WA state. They want to transfer services. I have to complete an exit COS before transferring to the new agency.
FALSE the receiving agency in WA state will complete the Exit COS when the child ages out OR if parents change their mind and wish to decline all services.
(Only when a child is moving out of state or wishes to discharge all services do we complete the Exit COS...and it's been at least 6 months!)
When should the FRC complete the Entry COS during the initial IFSP?
Couple of options...
1) provider pauses in between sections while reading the evaluation: after social emotional, communication/cognitive, and then motor/adaptive (Ideal)
2) FRC can complete it after reading through full evaluation
What descriptor statement number is this? "During everyday routines and activities related to this outcome area, your child has all of the skills we would expect to see for a child their age and there are still some concerns"

How long should an FRC leave a referral open before we close due to no contact?
10 days (3 failed consecutive attempts at least 2 different contact methods- phone, text, email, letter etc.)
