What does AED stand for?
Automated External Defibrillation

What does the heart do?
pumps blood throughout the blood vessels to various parts of the body by repeated, rhythmic contractions
100
What are the 3 P's of patient care?

200
What depth should your compressions be?
ADULT = at LEAST 2 inches CHILD = 1/3 the depth of the chest up to 2 inches INFANT = 1/3 the depth of the chest up to 1 1/2 inches
200
The AED will only shock abnormal electrical activity or rhythms. What are the 2 abnormal electrical rhythms called?
Ventricular Fibrillation (V/F) Ventricular Tachycardia (V/T)
200
Where are the primary electrical impulses, that result in effective contractions, generated from? Bonus - what else is it called?
The Sinoatrial node (THE S/A NODE) Bonus - Pacemaker

Where does the blood get re-oxygenated?
The alveoli inside the lungs
300
You are performing CPR and then attempt to ventilate and you feel resistance when you do so. What do you do?

When is the only time you reassess ABCs during CPR?
If the victim starts to regain consciousness, starts to breathe effectively or has purposeful movement.
400
List 4 special circumstances that you have to check before using an AED and what would you do for each?
Hairy chest - shave Water/ wet environment - remove from free standing water/ dry off Conductive metal surface - if you cannot remove clear all bystanders from area, ensure proper footwear, stand and don't move feet when giving shock. Severe Hypothermia - still apply but may not shock Pregnancy - still do AED protcol Medical Patches - remove with gloves if they are in the way of the AED pads Pacemakers - place AED pads approx 1 inch away from pacemaker
