How Do You Qualify?

  • You must complete our Financial Aid Intake Form and provide proof of eligibility
  • You must meet eligibility requirements including authorization to work in the U.S., age, selective service registration, if applicable, and family income level (see Common Documents below).

Occasionally, Workforce Solutions has a registry for some forms of financial aid. After you complete the intake form, we can discuss your specific eligibility.

Common Information & Documents

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or ability to work in the United States

  • Selective Service registration for males born on or after January 1, 1960
  • Proof of income for all working household members, including name, address, and phone number of the employer, work hours/days, rate and schedule of pay

  • Proof of household income received from other sources such as Child Support, SSI, etc.

  • Proof of layoff (such as a letter from your employer) and/or unemployment insurance benefit documents

  • Proof of your current school hours and registration that includes documentation of your degree plan (if pursuing one) and your credit/clock hours if you are going to school

What is an FA Inquiry?

Financial Inquiry- when there is a beginning session about school and the customer does not have an idea about the training. This is when we worked with the customer to identify the transferrable skills to discuss occupational options.

How Will You Pay for Education & Training?

Pell Grants - Pell Grants are federal grants that don't have to be repaid. They are only awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree. How much you get will depend not only on your financial resources, but also on your cost of attendance, whether you're a full-time or part-time student, and whether you attend school for a full academic year or less. You may receive only one Pell Grant in an award year, and you may not receive Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time

How Will You Pay for Education & Training? Other ways to assist with payment?

  • Veteran funding – The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) connects Texas veterans to higher education and technical training opportunities. Veterans may qualify for funding through the GI Bill and/or Hazlewood Act. Customers can visit Texas Veterans Commission - Education to learn more or apply for benefits.

  • Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) funding – Customers with disabilities may be eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation services to obtain, retain or advance employment. VR Counselors work with customers to develop a plan that includes funding options when education and training is needed to secure employment. Customers can connect with Vocational Rehabilitation online or a Workforce Solutions career office.

  • State funding – Customers may also qualify for state grants and scholarships that don’t have to be repaid. Most grants are awarded based on financial need but may also require students to maintain a certain grade point average or take specific courses. A list of state grants and scholarships as well as qualifying criteria, can be found here.

  • Workforce Solutions Scholarships – Workforce Solutions scholarships support training for some of the region's high-skill, high-growth occupations. If you are interested in one of these careers, we can contribute to a financial aid package to help you pay for school. Individuals who receive training and education scholarship support from Workforce Solutions must use a training provider and program on the statewide Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL) and in our Training Provider Network.
