Dog gods, spirits, or demons that could possess humans with unstable emotions.

Sometimes seen with hundreds of heads, and was the guardian on Earth to the entrance to the Underworld.

Brightly colored folk-art sculptures created by Pedro Linares after a drug-induced hallucination sleep; spirit guides after death; as seen in Coco
What is an Alebrije?
Created for a movie of the same name; three types but all related to nature; live in underground homes built into the sides of mountains or hills

Creatures created for the purpose of scaring people - fakelore; some are based on mythology; controlled by a foundation

Goddess of the Sun whose name translates into "shrine from heaven"; named Ancesstress of the Imperial House - meaning all people in her bloodline had the right to rule

The front half is an eagle and the back half was a horse; extremely fast and ridden by magicians & knights; fight to the death to defend their nest.

Translates into "skirt of snakes"; mother of the gods, sun, moon, stars, and Huītzilōpōchtli (god of war) - created from a ball of hummingbird feathers but her children thought it brought shame to the family

Based on the bard Taliesin who was born with magical powers; usually described as an old man with a beard but sometimes seen as a young man who cannot control his powers

A fictional space entity that was a combination of an octopus, dragon, and humans; created by H. P. Lovecraft
What is Cthulu?
Translates into "to hide or conceal" or "a soul/spirit of the dead"; described as huge troll or ogre-like creatures; wicked souls would transform into them after death and cause trouble or torture humans in Jigoku (Hell)
What are Oni?
Created by Hephaestus and sent to Earth for Epimetheus as punishment for what Prometheus did.
Who is Pandora? or What is Pandora's Box?
Translates into "weeping or wailing woman"; original story said she drowned her own children in a rage; ghost that mourns her drowned children on waterfronts

Comes from the Scottish words meaning "dwelling" and "limb of tree"; normally a peaceful creature but protective of their tree; used in lockpicking and could be inspired by the rashnovik plant - could unlock anything
What is a Bowtruckle?
Translates from Japanese into "woman-spider" - thought to lure people with a disguise and wrap them in her webs.
What/Who is the Jorōgumo?
The name translates into "thunder animal or beast"; the body is composed of lightning but can take on the form of many animals; said to sleep in people's bellybuttons and lightning will be shot at him to wake him up.
What is Raijū?
Translates into "warriors" or "to make war"; daughters of Ares (war) and Harmonia (peace); a tribe of brutal warrior women that fought to bring peace to the world; based on female Scythian warriors
Who are/were the Amazons?
Warriors who would take on an animal persona in order to capture prisoners for sacrifice. Weapons were made with obsidian glass and wood.
What were Jaguar (Ocēlōtl) or Eagle (Cuāuhtli) spirit warriors?
Seen as the Queen of the Fairies, then as a healing traveler, and now as an evil sorceress. Either given powers by a fellow wizard or sorceress or born with them.
Who is Morgan Le Fay or Morganna?
Given powers by Merlin or Lady of the Lake.
Translates from Japanese into "death bringer or spirit"; thought to invite humans towards death; originally were not "creepy" but were a natural part of life & death
