LOCK OUT:
LOCK, LAYER and REINFORCE = LOCK DOWN INDIRECT contact with the threat and/or you received notice of the threat through another stimulus, AND You are in an area that can be locked down quickly
GET OUT
DIRECT contact with the threat, AND You are in an area that cannot be secured with LOCK OUT procedures.
▪ Move to the closest area that can be locked down quickly, OR
▪ GET OUT quickly to the closest exit to get away from the building and out of the line of sight
TAKE OUT:
▪ Eminent threat is within close proximity to you and GET OUT success is not possible, OR
▪ LOCK OUT measures have or are failing,
▪ TAKE OUT measures involve improvising available objects to use as weapons, direct others (staff and students who can follow directions) in a coordinated group response to attack the assailant. Throwing objects at the assailant may cause them to be distracted and create an opportunity for you and others to take the assailant to the ground and disarm them. Any item that can cut, slash, or cause injury to the assailant is an option and should be utilized without remorse.
