I helped my brother with his homework.

Doesn't count as direct service because you should go out into the community and help vulnerable populations.

"I volunteered at Sacred Heart community service. It was fun and very impactful."

Is this a sufficient reflection? If not, what's missing?

This is NOT a sufficient response. It's missing:

- thoughtfulness

- what you learned/how it impacted you

Where do you log your hours?

The x2VOL platform. The website takes you step by step through the logging process.

I went to Sacred Heart and I handed out groceries and canned goods to community members.

This is direct service! You are working face-to-face with vulnerable communities.

I worked with the Homeless Support Action Team at our Lady of Refuge serving the unhoused. It is incredibly inspiring to see so many groups come together -- mobile showers and the clothing and food services -- to serve our unhoused neighbors. This model of service has allowed me to interact with other service organizations and our unhoused neighbors face to face. By having all groups meet at Our Lady of Refuge weekly, it allows community members to receive support and their needs all in one place, benefiting them. I believe this environment can be modeled at churches and schools who open their doors to communities in need.

This is sufficient!

There is detail and thoughtfulness.

The writer clearly expressed how the experience impacted them and how it changed their perspective on serving vulnerable communities.

I participated in the SiVIC Interfaith Memorial for the Unhoused with other ND students. I helped with the set-up and take-down and I welcomed community members into the event. I also read during the ceremony.

This is direct service! Events like these ones are featured on x2VOL and students can sign up.

"I helped out at my old school by playing with the students and helping them with their work. I worked specifically with the Kindergarten students as they completed their math and English activities. I also supervised students during recess and lunch to ensure they stayed safe. Later in the day, I oversaw their Maker Space period where students could draw and create 3D crafts.

This is NOT a sufficient reflection.

While sharing what you did is great, that portion is described in the "Project Description" on the first page of the x2VOL logging process.

The reflection  includes how your experience impacted you and changed the way you see things or understand others.

I worked as a volunteer at the Crab Fest. I bussed tables and I helped serve the food.

"I volunteered Second Harvest's annual Turkey Trot registration event. The turkey trot is an annual run where community members can run together with family and friends. I learned that all proceeds from the event go to non-profits across Santa Clara County and additional 2.9 million pounds of fresh produce can be passed out to families. By working to register participants -- helping sort out technical difficulties and finding bibs -- I was supporting their goal of handing out more goods to families in need around the holidays.

This is a sufficient reflection! It includes detail and elaboration. It also shares what the writer learned and how it impacts the community they served.

If you have any questions, who can you reach out to?

Reach out to Ms. Estrada and the TASC Service Team!

I volunteered at the Belmont Senior Living Center with other ND students through the non-profit, the Sunshine Squad. I talked with many of the community members and I learned about their daily routine at the center and about their careers and life before coming to live in Belmont. It was super cool.

This is NOT sufficient!

It's a good start, but more details need to be added to receive credit. Try to aim for 4-5 thoughtful sentences when writing your reflection.
