Russia, with one-seventh of the Earth’s land surface, has just 141.4 million citizens, making it one of the most sparsely settled countries in the world. With a low birthrate and very high death rate, the population has been shrinking since the early 1990s. The hope for Conception Day is for a brood of babies to be born exactly nine months later on Russia’s national day. Couples who “give birth to a patriot” during the June 12 festivities win money, cars, refrigerators and other prizes.
In 2005, the first year, in the region Ulyanovsk, 311 women signed up to take part. Results: June 2006, 46 more babies were born in Ulyanovsk’s 25 hospitals than in June of the previous year, including 28 born on June 12. Giving new meaning to teamwork makes a dream work.

Epiphany is a Christian holiday typically celebrated on January 6. It is also known as Three Kings' Day, Twelfth Day and Little Christmas.
For some Christians, the feast celebrates the visit of the three kings. They are also known as the Magi or the Wise Men.
According to the Gospel of Matthew, the three men “from the east” followed a star across the desert. It led them to Bethlehem to meet the Baby Jesus. They gave him gifts of gold, frankincense (resin used in perfumes) and myrrh (tree gum).
For other Christians, Epiphany is a celebration of the baptism of Jesus.
