Problem:

Lan rode her bicycle from her house to the library, which is 12 kilometers away.
She traveled at a constant speed of 4 kilometers per hour.

After staying at the library for an hour, she rode back home at a speed of 6 kilometers per hour.

Question:
How long did the entire trip take, including the time she stayed at the library?

Solution Steps (optional, if needed for teaching):

  1. Time to go to the library = distance ÷ speed = 12 km ÷ 4 km/h = 3 hours

  2. Time at the library = 1 hour

  3. Time to return home = 12 km ÷ 6 km/h = 2 hours

  4. Total time = 3 + 1 + 2 = 6 hours
