King Belshazzar. He is foolish and did not learn from the mistakes of King Nebuchadnezzar. He challenged God and mocked him and he thought he was the center of the universe.

Why did God want to judge King Belshazzar?
The king took of the sacred things from the temple and made a joke of it. This was a blasphemous act of pride and defiance which invited God's judgment.

What had happened to King Nebuchadnezzar?
In Ch. 4 King N had become so prideful that God removed his "humanness" from him and he became like an ox-beast until he repented.
Why did the king offer such a huge reward for the interpretation?
The extravagance of the reward offered indicates how desperate Belshazzar was for an interpretation, but no-one could help him, and his terror increased. Not even his wisest people could understand or reveal the mind of God.
Belshazzar's pride and arrogance was similar to that of of Nebuchadnezzar. However, N, when judged by the Lord, at least had the sense to respond in humility. Unlike Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar had openly challenged the one true and living God by using his sacred goblets in the worship of lifeless idols!
What does God think about people who mock him?
God will exact judgment upon them either in this life or at his return. Either way they will receive a consequence.
Who was King Belshazzar worshipping when they had their feast?
They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.
How did King Belshazzar respond to the interpretation?
Belshazzar's response was to reward the messenger, but he failed to acknowledge the source. There is no indication that he expressed any remorse, and the Lord's judgment was swiftly executed that very night.
