What is Primary Data?

Data observed or collected directly from first-hand experience.

100

What is Discreet Data?

Data that can only take certain values. For example: the number of students in a class (you can't have half a student). Discrete Data is not Continuous Data.

What is a bar graph?

A Bar Graph (also called Bar Chart) is a graphical display of data using bars of different heights.

The bars can be horizontal or vertical.

100

What is Secondary Data?

Published data and the data collected in the past or other parties is called secondary data.

200

Give an example of primary data.

Data collected by a student for his/her thesis or research project.

200

Give example of discreet data?

Examples may differ. For example: the number of students in a class (you can't have half a student).

200

What is a line graph?

Line Graph: a graph that shows information that is connected in some way (such as change over time)

200

Name 2 types of data.

Primary, Secondary, Continuous or discreet.

300

What kind of primary data have you had experience with?

Doing surveys on height? colour of eyes? classroom characteristics....

300

What is continuous data?

Continuous Data. Definition of Continuous Data: Information that can be measured on a continuum or scale. Continuous data can have almost any numeric value and can be meaningfully subdivided into finer and finer increments, depending upon the precision of the measurement system.

300

What is a pie chart?

Pie Chart: a special chart that uses "pie slices" to show relative sizes of data.

300

Name 3 types of data.

Primary, Secondary, Continuous.

400

Name 4 kinds of primary data.

Answers will differ.

400

Give an example of continuous data.

Weight, height, temperature, etc. are examples of measurement that would make up a continuous data set. Always remember this: you can't have half a basketball!

400

What is a histogram?

Histogram: a graphical display of data using bars of different heights.

It is similar to a Bar Chart, but a histogram groups numbers into ranges

And you decide what ranges to use!

400

Name 4 kinds of secondary data.

Answers will differ.

500

How do we show data?

Line graph, bar graph, pie graph, scatter chart, area chart.

500

Why do we use different graphs?

Line graphs can also be used to compare changes over the same period of time for more than one group. Pie charts are best to use when you are trying to compare parts of a whole. They do not show changes over time. Bar graphs are used to compare things between different groups or to track changes over time.
