mammary glands, which are body parts used by

the females to feed milk to their babies. This is how scientists gave

mammals their name.

How are they alike?

In what other ways are mammals alike? Mammals are warm-blooded,

which means they have a regular, warm temperature inside their

bodies. They also have hair covering some or all of their bodies. This

helps them stay warm when the weather is cold.

Mammals have four limbs, although some sea mammals have

adapted to their watery homes with flippers for swimming. Mammals

have well-developed brains and hearts that have four separate

sections for pumping blood through their bodies.
