In June of 1930, a high tariff was place on agricultural products that came into the USA. This made the importers from other countries mad. To get even, other countries put a high tariff on American goods that were imported into their countries. In the end, the Smoot Hawley Tariff did more harm than good.

How was the Atom Bomb created?
In 1939, a Hungarian physicist who had immigrated to the USA wrote President FDR a letter. He told the president about the possibility of splitting the nucleus of a powerful atom, such as uranium, releasing a tremendous amount of energy and producing a chain reaction leading to the creation of the atom bomb.

20,000 WWI veterans and their families marched to Washington, D.C. to ask Congress to pay them the $1000 bonus they had been promised. Congress had promised to pay them $1000 in 1945 as a thank you for their service in WWI, but the veterans wanted the money NOW.
