You would be able to determine a person’s degree of wealth and social class by their fashion. Peasants often had only one or two sets of clothing and in some places there were laws against lower classes wearing nice clothes. Sometimes laws specified who could wear what types of clothes. Wealthy people had a variety of clothes, often made of the materials such as fur and silk, high style, such as jewelry and hats.

What is a status symbol?

The wealthy dressed in fancy clothing. A wealthy person would have a variety of clotes made from fine materials, furs and silks. Peasants on the other hand, typically had only had one or two sets of clothing. Wealthy men wore colorful tights or stockings witha  short and tight fitting coat called a doublet.

Cervantes was captured by pirates. The pirates thought the letters were real and it took five years for his family to get the money together for his ransom. Back in Jail is when Cervantes got in trouble because he gave the tax money to the inn keeper and the inn keeper took off with the money. Cervantes was thrown in jail. 

The author was trying that sometimes bad things happen to good people. However, Cervantes was able to write the rest of Don Quixote in jail so it was a blessing in disguise.

What inferences can you make about opportunities women had during the Renaissance?

The women only had opportunities depending on who she married. For example, Isabel married who was wealthy and powerful. As a result, she could make political alliances and rule the country. However, women who did not marry someone of power were expected to have arranged marriages, have sons for their husbanad's, and admire their husbands.

The middle class grew because trade grew. As a result their were more wealthy middle class people that could be patrons for the artists. As a result some of the greatest art pieces were made.
